Common Name: 'Cardoon', 'Globe artichoke'

AGM. Large silver leaves, which look attractive as they come through the ground and as they mature in early summer, are followed by enormous thistle-like purple flowers held on stout stems later in the year. Jul-Sep. H200cm S120cm.

Care Instructions

Prefers a deep, light, well-drained soil out of the wind. May require a mulch in cold winters. The stems can be blanched and used as a vegetable and the young thistles make good cut flowers.
